Executive Election Link 2013/14

IMPORTANT FOR OFF CAMPUS VOTING - For students who wish to vote off campus it is important that you put uad\ (backslash) then your student username and password to get onto the nework.

It’s simple… IT MATTERS! Your vote has the power to elect any ordinary member of the Students’ Association to the role of President or Vice-President and 6 Executive Committee positions. They will become the supreme representatives of the SA and furthermore YOU! Please take time to read over the candidates’ manifestos and to come along to the hustings and grill candidates on issues that relate to you. Remember - it’s Your Students’ Association, Your voice! 

The Roles

Amongst the various roles of a Sabbatical and Executive Committee, the most important is representation; whether at a local, national or even internatoional level. Their primary concern is to make sure you, the students of Abertay, are getting the best possible experience at University!

While the daily job of a Sabb may be to represent a student at a disciplinary hearing, or to give advice on how to appeal a decision made by the academic board, it is also important that the concerns and opinions of Abertay students are raised in larger forums. This includes events such as at the National Union of Students conference every year, where Sabbs from over 200 Universities across the UK attend and discuss key issues relating to students in the UK.

Sabbs also work collectively with the other members of the Executive to give direction to, and ensure the smooth running of, all aspects of the Students’ Association and uphold the spirit of the constitution by which they are governed.

As an Executive Committee member your role would be to act as a Trustee of the SA and would be the communication channel between the SA and its members. You would play a vital role in shaping and developing the direction of the SA in conjunction with the Student Representative Council.

The Students’ Association

The Students’ Association, often referred to as the SA or UADSA, is the official student-led organisation that represents the entire student body of the University of Abertay Dundee. Any money that is made by the SA is directed right back to the SA, therefore every penny raised is spent on students and improving the student experience at Abertay. The SA is also a registered charity and throughout the year raises money for several charities and trusts, some of which directly affect students’ lives.

The SA is led by two Abertay students who hold sabbatical roles for one year (President and Vice President), and are supported by six executive members. The sabbatical roles are full-time paid positions, while the six executive roles are unpaid and filled by studying students.
